The Quails of Death

Our lust for more can never be gratified or satisfied. This is a serious statement. During the Exodus, the cry of the people was heard and a deliverer was given. Moses led the people from slavery to freedom. Their hunger was satisfied by food that never once again tasted by men - manna. The story of the quails was often regarded as the generosity of God to satisfy the complaining multitudes. It was not so. The wanting for better food was a cry of lust. When lust bloomed, death followed. (Numbers 11) The generosity of God brought forth the worst of men in this sad history. What is lust today? Could it be the longing for a bigger bank account, newer gadgets, better technologies, latest fashion or even higher quality or better-tasting food? Could it be the craving for knowledge, the urge for experience, the pursuit of happiness, crown of honor, or establishment of pride? Anything we deem better than God Himself is lust. May we all learn from Kibrothhattaavah - the place where lust was buried. 20120706-130142.jpg
