We were all volunteers at Singapore Youth For Christ. We came up with many ideas to bring in crowds some of which still bring a grin to my face when I think of it. The idea seemed attractive to draw a crowd - Chicken Olympics!
I remembered doing the Lord's work the Lord's way was the emphasis. We spent time in prayers each time before leaving the office for publicity.
All of us were energetic, full of zeal, and fearless to approach anyone from the neighborhood school. The positive response was stunning. In total, about 75 people promised to be there at the Chicken Olympics Event.
We were fully prepared for the tele-match. We bought chickens and eggs and all other props needed to make the event enjoyable and successful. We never forget to pray. In fact, it was one event that prayers were rendered more than any other event I could recall.
The field was prepared and all the volunteers were ready. Our hearts were full of anticipation for the crowd. We were expecting at least 50. Time passed and there were 3 girls who showed up. We were still hopeful as the ladies make the guests comfortable. Time passed and there was no sign of people. In those days no one could afford mobile so we waited longer. It was 1.5 hours later that we began to accept the fact that no one else was coming.
It was then disappointment sank in and we started packing up. We were carrying chickens and eggs and we had a unanimous rock bottom emotion. Why God? Why? Was the cry of my heart and I am sure it was the same for the volunteers as we return the chickens to the store.
On our way back to the gathering, we were greeted by the ladies with the best news ever. All 3 girls believed in the Lord Jesus and wanted to follow Him!
It was the most successful event with 100% participant decided to follow Jesus!
We never saw that coming and we did not cease to give thanks in our hearts for the turn out of the event. God always has better plans.
Those 3 girls became student leaders years later.
