Rahab is someone many regarded as a lucky one who need not pay for lying. Our hearts struggle a little each time we hear stories like this.
Rahab hid the spies sent from Joshua from her own people because she believes that the Israelites will in due time conquer her land and destroy everything. She decided to assist her enemy and in return asked her family to be spared.
We learn that the Israelites indeed conquered her land and she and her family were spared.
This story leaves discomfort to many. What about her lying? She broke one of the 10 commandments.
This incident reminded us of Jesus. He healed on the Sabbath and brought the same discomfort to many witnesses. What about Him breaking the Sabbath?
From these records, we discover a little more than meet the eye. Faith in God and act of kindness seemed to matter most than observing the law in disregard to others. Were these instances a display of love and the fruit of the spirit as in Romans 13:10 and Galatians 5:22-23?
Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. (Romans 13:10 KJV)
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. (Galatians 5:22, 23 KJV)
