We can miss the significance of the parable of the talent in Matthew 25 if we do not know the amount Jesus was talking about. A talent is about 26-32kg and if Jesus was talking about a talent of silver he was talking about 200 months of salary. That is talking about 16 years of salary. A tempting amount to talk about. The parable anchored on the wrong in doing nothing with it. Imagine one would have big plans for business expansion or investment with that kind of money. In the story, however, the slothful servant did nothing of profit. That was why the master was furious. Relating this back to us today. Most of us here in Singapore have no lack (I apologize if I am not being sensitive here) in terms of food, clothing, and a roof over our heads. We have been more educated and training is available within our reach. That means somehow we are given more than we need. That is God's talent for us. What have we done with it?

May we learn that God has been very generous to each and every one of us and let us focus on how to use them wisely.
