In John 1, the writer mentioned in verse 17: For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. This verse caused many to have the idea that grace and truth come after the law. Closer observation reveals that this verse is not emphasizing sequence but stating facts. John was amplifying Jesus as the truth and grace of God. If you have studied the chapter in Exodus 20 about the commandments,  you will realize that the law was given after the Israelites were brought out of Egypt. Before the commandments were given, God reminded them to remember what grace they have received - Exodus 20:1-2 KJV And God spake all these words, saying, I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Hence preacher of the gospel must remember that upon receiving grace God instructed His people to live a certain way, a better way! Instructions for Christian living can be found all over the letters for those who claim to follow Jesus.

May we remember such grace we received through the work of Christ Jesus and hence live the way He desires of us. May we find fellowship with more who embrace this so that we are never found alone.
