"If God will show Himself in a certain manner, then will I believe." "If God would answer my prayer in this fashion, then I will fully commit to Him." I came across such statements from non-believers to discouraged Christian. Statements like this reflect the kind of faith one has.
Daniel 3 told us a story about three persons who refused to bow down to other gods besides Yahweh. The Babylonian king threatens to have them burnt alive. At that point in time, God was most needed. This was how the men of faith replied to the king:
Daniel 3:16-18 KJV
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed–nego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.
These 3 men had deep convictions that are not affected by "if". Their devotion to God was not circumstantial. Even if God did not deliver them from the fire, they had already made up their minds to worship only Yahweh.
May we learn to build the faith that surpasses "if" towards "even if".
