There was a time in Israel when people were only concerned about doing business and making profits. By law, they were not allowed to work in Sabbaths and some Jewish festivals. Although they observed these festivals, they wish those times pass quickly so that they can carry on business as usual. Those were times they took advantage of the poor by selling inferior goods including wheat mixed with substances (unbalanced scale). (Amos 8:4-6)
God was sick with those merchants. He was sick with their singing, He was sick with their celebration, He was sick with their offerings. (Amos 5:21-27)
The prophet Amos was sent to warn these people to seek good and turn from evil.
May we learn from History the heartbeat of God. To use our resources to help those in need instead of profiting from them. For God has a special tenderness towards the needy and poor.
