20140430-080123.jpg History recorded for us a man, a powerful man of his time named Naaman. He was a captain of the king of Syria, which was at that time a superpower. Those who watched 300 the movie may have an idea. He, however, had a big problem. He was a leper. A main serving Naaman's wife felt strongly that the God of Israel would be able to heal Naaman. In those days believers of God have faith that prophets are of God and they can help in any situation. Naaman decided to have a go. Naaman brought a letter from the king, a decree in those days, a host of chariots and horses to meet the Prophet of God - Elisha. Instead of a royal welcome, Naaman's army was left outside the house of Elisha, and instruction was given that Naaman would be healed if he washes 7 times in Jordan river. Naaman was furious, he expected the Prophet to give him a welcome, have a big ceremony to call out to God and heal him of his sickness. Instead, he was asked to DIY (do it yourself) at the Jordan River. He was later persuaded to carry out what the prophet had instructed. It was not an easy task. For Naaman, he was used to facing the crowd in his armour. People respected his rank, people recognized him as captain that way. Best of all his leprosy is well covered. To wash in the river, he got to strip off his armour, exposed his sickness in front of the crowd and wash in a seemingly dirty river. He was healed immediately after 7 wash in Jordan river. 2 Kings 5:1-15 Coming before God requires us to do the same. It is not easy. In society, we are judged by the way we dress, most of the time the clothing covers our sinfulness and make us look better than who we really are. Coming to God requires us to face Him as who we really are. Healing will then take place.
May we learn to bare ourselves before God, exposed to our sins and come before Him as He instructed. May healing take place in each of your lives who take this instruction seriously instead of walking away from it.
