Difficult passages of the Bible

You do not need to ask permission to do what is commanded in the Scripture nor do you need to ask permission to do what is forbidden in the Scripture. That was from a mentor of mine many years back and it stands true today. The Bible needs to be read and interpreted in context and culture. Most of the scripture is straight forward. Proper usage of spiritual gifts are covered in 1 Corinthians 14, instructions of Christian living in Colossians 3 and marriage relationship in 1 Peter 3. There are 2 kinds of common problems when it comes to Scripture. One challenges our knowledge, the other our lives. One problem is that we do not understand it and the other we understood it simply but it just does not fit into our practices or doctrines. The first kind of problem can be solved by seeking or studying but the second kind is the ones that we need to wrestle with. One has to seek God and Godly counsel when it comes to practices and doctrinal issues. Belief often causes us to make changes in our lives. At times those changes are major.
May we be bold for change in accordance with the word of God.
