It is commonly stated that Christianity is not a religion but a relationship with our Lord Jesus. That is well said but inadequate. If you read the Bible, you will notice that our Lord Jesus not only wants a relationship with people but He wants His people to walk in a certain way.
Just as God in the Old Testament gave clear instructions for the Israelites to live, our Lord has taught in His words the way Christians should live. Yet today many believers do not live in the way and they justify it by having a relationship with the Lord. Is that kind of relationship even possible?
A relationship requires agreement to walk in the same way leading in the same direction. Walking a separate way only leads to separation. It would be self-deception to declare Jesus as Lord but to exercise all rights based on self-decision. That is why every disciple must learn the Lordship of Christ.
Taylor, Hudson – “Christ is either Lord of all, or is not Lord at all.” (Roger Steer. Hudson Taylor: Lessons in Discipleship. OMF International, 1995, 34.)All believers must learn to walk with Jesus Our Lord. He said he is the way in John 14:6. The book of Romans declared to those who do not know Christ that they don't know the way Romans 3:17. 2 Peter 2:15 declared that those who fall away are those who forsake the way. Matthew 17:14 stated that the way is narrow. Acts 18:25.,26 the way of the Lord can be instructed or learned and expounded more completely. Acts 24:14 the early believers were called followers of the way. Hence brothers and sisters. Let's learn the ways of the Lord and walk in them. How do we do that? By practicing what we learned in the Bible. Confront sin, comfort the weak, extend help, be with the grieving, teach the young, give to the poor and that is walking in the way of the Lord.
May we found to be not mere professors of the faith but people who walk in the way.
