When we heard that the Perseid meteor shower was peaking on August 11, 2024, we decided to take a trip to Desaru, where the light pollution is the least in our region. After a 2-hour drive, we planned to set up our cameras at about 1 AM, knowing that the peak hour would be around 4 AM.
We had less than an hour's rest when the alarm rang. We set off to the beach, where we set up our cameras. The ladies had stone beach chairs where they could lie down to view the sky. We spotted the first meteor, which was a bright orange, cutting across the sky brightly. That boosted our confidence, and we hurried to get our cameras shooting.
The clouds thickened, but we kept shooting anyway. Clouds are not ideal for stargazing, but we prayed for a clear sky and left everything to God. At about 3 AM, the sky turned crystal clear. The vast sky was filled with stars of all sizes against the dark background. This was our first answered prayer, and we were thankful for it.
During our shoot, we spotted two more bright meteors, but they were both out of frame. I told my friend that since we had asked for a clear sky, I would like to pray for a meteor to be captured that night. Not long after, we spotted another meteor. I managed to capture the tail of one of them on the right side of the photo (see photo above). It was not perfect.
I told my friend that I was praying for a meteor that would be directly in my composed frame. Although it seemed like an entitlement, I wanted to pray anyway. I continued to shoot, and about 20 minutes later, we spotted a meteor right above the swing we used as a foreground. I knew I had it in the shot. I played back the last shot, and the meteor was nicely captured. I was very thankful. God answered my prayers not once, not twice, but thrice!
May this testimony encourage you to pray and trust God for His answered prayers. While this kind of encounter is not a normality, we must never cease to trust God to answer any kind of prayer, whether it be small or big.
Psalm 148:1-3
Praise the Lord from the heavens;
Praise him in the heights above.
Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his heavenly hosts.
Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all you shining stars.
