In the modern era where freedom is embraced the word duty can easily become a dirty word. Nobody likes duty. Duty speaks of compulsory work under certain obligations where rarely freedom can be exercised. A letter from the Singapore Youth For Christ SYFC I read recently challenged such thoughts. Mr. Lim Chien Chong reminded us that Duty is tied with Honor. I believe in the old days where kings reigned duty was honor - something our modern society may not be able to relate with today. A knight with no duty is counted as great dishonor. Ecclesiastes sums these up beautifully in 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. Ecclesiastes 12:12-14
