Fill the Holes

Life is a journey. During this journey, some wrongs were done to us and some wrongs were done by us. These wrongs at times wasted our resources and some of the strained relationships. Some of these leave a scar in our lives while some taught us precious lessons that protect us from committing the same mistakes or have taught us to respond in a better way next time. Imagine, each time wrong is done, it doesn't matter which party is wrong, it is like a hole dug along the life's path that we are journeying. In due time, we have thousands of holes, some bigger than the others and some wider than the others. If these holes were left alone, we will finally find ourselves isolated from people we loved, gathering we once enjoyed and work we once felt we fitted in well. Worst of all some of us fall into the hole and take years trying to come out of it. If you have come this far, how do you proceed? First, you have to decide which holes you need to patch, if those were resources related, you may want to start by being contented with what you have, then plan to grow your resources in small ways. Remember the Lord God who filled the whole universe can ensure you have no lack. If the holes are relationship related, start with staying in contact, be it a call, SMS, or an email. If someone has wronged you, remember you want to be forgiven as much as the other person. If you are a follower of Jesus, remember He taught us to forgive and to live freely. If the opportunity arises, let the other person know you were hurt by what happened but you have already gone out of the pain and have let the matter rest. That will help to cover some holes the other person created. If you are the wrongdoer, a simple apology fills deep holes. Learn to be generous in apology. Being generous in apology means sincerity and not saying sorry many times. The story of Jacob reminds us of filling holes. He ran away from his brother Esau many years before the holes were filled and he was able to walk straight after that.
May we start to patch the holes. Ecclesiastes 10:8 He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him.
