Lesson from the Mouse

It started about 2 weeks back. The neighborhood was talking about sightings of a rat. This is not a common thing living on 6th floor in a HDB flat in Singapore. There was evidence of the pest digging the soil of the flower pots, living behind messy loose soil on the floor. This became the norm in our neighborhood. For those with plants, it was a nightmare. Yesterday my wife decided to get a mousetrap. The trap was set up with irresistible Chinese bacon. It worked. It turned out that the pest was actually a mouse. Everyone was fascinated with the little creature and shared their encounter with the mouse. Everyone felt a sense of relief that their corridor will no longer be dirty now as the mouse is now caught. This story reminds me of the bible verse in the Song of Solomon 2:15. Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes. We have to get rid of the pest in our vineyard as much as we must get rid of bad habits or sin in our lives. Little foxes spoil our vineyard like sin hinders our spiritual growth. Allowing them around will cause damage and create mess little by little.
May we spend time to identify the little foxes in our lives. May we get rid of them little by little so that we can protect our vineyard.
