1 King 13 recorded for us a dramatic tragedy of a man of God. No name was given to this man. All we know is that he was known as a man of God. He received specific instructions from the Lord directly.
He brought God's word followed by prophetic signs which many followers of God desired. He was also given specific instructions not to eat, drink, or turn back from where he left. V9
On his way back from his mission an elder prophet from Bethel sent a servant to him and convinced him to go back to Bethel. He forgot what the Lord has instructed him earlier - not to go back. He heeded the older prophet of Bethel which cost him his life. A lion killed him and stood guard over his dead body.
It was
dead serious.
Today, we are in the church age and the period of God's grace. Imagine if we are to follow strict instructions like the man of God, most of us might have paid the death penalty by now. Let us all the more cherish this grace and respond with greater appreciation and obedience towards God.
