As believers of our Lord Jesus, we will come across this word repent. Repent is commonly defined as to turn away from sin, be contrite for pass conducts, or regret what wrong that has been done. While these are very good definitions of repentance, the scripture brings repent to a new level.
In Isaiah 55:7 it states:
7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
While the acts of turning away are important, the act of returning to God is equally important. This understanding has great implications for our attitudes towards sin. Each repentance should bring us closer to God and not just further from that particular sin.
