Some time ago a young member of our church Claudia was involved in the collection of can drinks tabs. The reason for collecting them was the fact that can drinks tabs can be recycled into material used for prosthetic limbs. Have we ever thought that Christians are supposed to be recycled material? Once in our sins, we were living in sin and not useful for the kingdom of God. The Bible calls this dead in sin, in other words, useless for His kingdom. We then underwent a process of cleansing by Jesus's blood. After which we went through refining by the fire of the Holy Spirit preparing us to be used as material useful for God the master. The church then is like a huge recycle bin consist of many different materials. Some are easier to refine, others are harder. Meanwhile, we all undergo the same refiner's fire which can be painful and uncomfortable because we have to be rid of certain attitudes, habits, mindsets, perceptions, and even bitterness before the material is made pure. It is a necessary process as some of us will be used as parts for the human body in which purity of materials matters most. The aim of refining is purity and not quantity. May we then learn to be patient with each other as we undergo the refining process. It will take time but it will be accomplished because God Himself is regulating the fire.
