I must confess that I have committed this again and again in my prayers. When I close my eyes and pray, I start with thanking Him for the good health I am enjoying, the good day I am blessed with, the business deals I had closed, the parking lot that I got, and many more. Afterward, the prayer would follow by asking God to see it through that I have the wisdom to carry out the tasks that are before me, the ability to handle the difficulties that are coming, to lead the church with wisdom, ability to share the word, be an example to my children and a list of God help me with this and that. Reflecting upon my prayers and the Lord's prayer, it seemed clear that my prayers can be summed up, "My will be done!" It is no coincidence that Jesus taught the disciples how to pray in Matthew 6. Imagine prayers needed to be taught! Jesus was teaching the attitudes of prayer and not just the contents of the prayer although the contents were of much substance itself. May we learn to pray in a way that inclines our will to His rather than the other way round. Thy will be done is much more proper than my will be done.
