Jabez was mentioned 3 times in the Bible. All in the record of chronicles.
From the passage 1 Chronicles 4:9-10, we learn that Jabez was named under difficult circumstances. No elaboration was commended on the circumstances. All we knew was his mother went through a time of sorrow and hence given him that name.
In this same verse, it mentioned that Jabez was considered more honorable than his brethren. He called on the God of Israel. Just like Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob who seek God, Jabez called on God. A unique quality that separated him and his brethren.
God's ears lean towards the cry of men. The Israelites cried and God delivered, Samson cried and God gave back his strength, Hannah cried and God opened her womb. Is there anyone who felt that little was accomplished despite efforts was poured in and through time have become discouraged? Maybe it's time we put our work aside and cry to the Lord. Our God accomplishes way more than we can ever imagine. More importantly, He shapes us into who we really needed to become alongside His accomplishments.
Jabez's requests included blessings, enlargement of land, God's guiding hands to be close, deliverance from evil, and even emotional request. It looks to me like he had poured out his heart to God sincerely and honestly. That is the kind of prayers we must learn. Not the content but the intent to become faithful and useful for God.
