The calling of Nathaniel was an interesting one. Nathaniel was a simple person who had no deceit. When Philip told him that they found the Messiah, he went straightway to meet Jesus. Nazareth was an unlikely place that Christ should appear - at least in Nathaniel's mind. He went ahead to see Jesus anyway.
Upon his arrival, Jesus told him that he saw Nathaniel under the fig tree. Nathaniel at once acknowledged Jesus as the Christ.
Jesus continued to assure Nathaniel that he will see greater things because he believed in Jesus' simple words. Believing Jesus in simplicity can lead to greater spiritual insights. Jesus promised Nathaniel that he will see angels.
Today there are many Nazareth in our minds. May we learn to see Jesus in every Nazareth. (John 7).
