I won’t pray for you.

There was once a sorcerer named Simon. He was known to be respected as a great man who has great power of God. We were told that Simon heard the good news of Jesus and he believed and was baptized. After which he followed Philips and witness the greatness of the power in which Philip rendered in signs and wonders. Simon could no longer contain himself when the Apostles laid hands on the Samaritans and received the Holy Spirit. It reminded him of the glory he once had when he bewitched people with his sorcery. Now he can gain back all that if he had the power of the Apostles. He was even willing to buy it. Peter rebuked him sharply stating that Simon's heart was not in line with God. Gifts from God can never be purchased with money. Simon will have no part in the work of God because his heart was for himself. Peter sternly asked Simon to repent. Simon's response revealed to us that he still does not get the message. He asked Apostle Peter to pray for him. I can imagine Peter's response would be," No! I won't pray for you. Pray to God yourself and I will pray with you! " Many believers today ask for prayers as if someone else prayer will be more effective then their own. This is a general error that we must turn away from. God hears the prayer of anyone who repents and comes to him. He delights in it. No, I won't pray for you but I would certainly pray with you.
