Ephesians 6:18 has always been a familiar verse. A verse I regarded for years to be a verse that advice us to pray.
Sometime late last year, I was awakened at about 5.30am on a Sunday morning. Somehow I was prompted to pray. I remembered I was giving excuses that it might be my own imagination. After a few minutes, I decided to wake up to pray.
The prayer started normally as usual. Praying for any thoughts that come to mind. As I continued to do so, the session turned into a wonderful experience. I can see faces after faces of people I know and I just kept praying and praying with little effort. That kept on a while and when I was done it was past 7.30am.
I never experience something like that before. I thought it might be just a one time experience hence I decided not to share this unless it happens more than 3 times. As you read this, it means I have experienced this more than 3 times. I am convinced that this is what it means by praying in the Spirit.
I didn't share this to undermine those who have not experienced praying in the Spirit. I share this to encourage you to pray in the Spirit.
If you have a similar experience, please share with the rest in the comments. May the Holy Spirit be glorified.
