Studies have shown a group of people work best under pressure. Given a timeline, they become more efficient. That may explain why some people do nothing about their lives under normal circumstances and they excel under desperate circumstances. Maybe you are feeling stagnant spiritually and you don't know why. The following story may be just what you need.
And, behold, two blind men sitting by the wayside, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David. And the multitude rebuked them because they should hold their peace: but they cried the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David. And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I shall do unto you? They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened. So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him. (Matthew 20:30-34 KJV)
The blind men heard about Jesus able to heal and restore sight. They wanted to see. So when Jesus is passing them by they knew that was their chance. They cannot let Jesus pass, hence they cried out loud, hoping Jesus would stop by them. The multitude asked them to shut up. They would not because they were desperate for Jesus to restore their sight. At this moment, Jesus stood and asked them what they want. They asked their sight to be restored and Jesus did.
This record shows us some things.
1) Jesus hears the desperate cries of people. The question is are you desperate enough?
2) Most people are for themselves, they care less for the needs of those around them. Asking the blind to shut up brought out such ugliness of men. Such is the condition of many of us.
3) The blind men received healing and followed Jesus. Experiencing God always leads us to follow Him.
May we take time to ask ourselves is there something we want different but have been pushed aside because life requires us to shut up and move on. May we not let Jesus pass today.
