The man who had all the Answers

There was once a teacher of the law. He saw the fame and wisdom of Jesus and he wanted to test Jesus. "What must I do to inherit eternal life?" Jesus threw back a question at him. "What does the law says?" That question was like elementary for the lawyer. That was his vocation. He answered perfectly. "You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself." Till this point, the lawyer should give himself pat at the back. "Right answer! Just do these and you will live." Jesus replied. The lawyer had passed the intellectual test, but he failed the compassionate one. Wanting to justify that himself, he questioned Jesus about who is one's neighbor. Jesus then continued the story of the good Samaritan. And at the end of it, Jesus asked the lawyer to go and do likewise. Luke 10. In our time, Christian education becomes a crucial part of our faith. Many are seeking to have all the answers. While learning about our faith is important, losing compassion to the needful can be an issue by which we must be mindful of. May we be a more compassionate person while seeking intellectual spiritual advancement, which was meant to help us to have more compassionate towards people like our Lord Jesus Christ.
