Hot buttons are an area of our lives where we guard religiously. To some, it is a relationship or material things and to another, power and reputation.
Jesus brought out the hot button issue with the rich young man in Mark 10:17-22. He was doing fairly well in life. He kept 5 of the 10 commandments since his youth.
Notice, however, the love of Jesus compelled Jesus to probe into the hot button issue of the young man's life - his possessions. The result? The young man went away sad. We can see from this record that God is in the business of pressing hot buttons. He is not contented that we live in the cover of our hot button issues. He wants us to live free from any entanglement that hinders our relationship with Himself because that is the best way to live. Imagine a life free from the entanglement of money, unhealthy relationship (one that we cling on to satisfy ourselves), greed, and strife.
When we reject Jesus's invitation, it always leads to sadness because deep within we know that the way of Jesus is freedom.
What are your hot buttons? Are you willing to let Jesus be Lord in those areas? If you are willing, Jesus will lead you into His kind of freedom and His kind of peace.
May we all learn to love and to follow Jesus. He knows what is best for us.
