Imagine that the economy is affected by virtually no harvest due to drought. Food becomes expensive and you are just a below-average person trying to survive. After 3 years, all your efforts living simply did not help and soon you have to face the reality of starving to death. Then came someone claiming to know God and wanted you to share your last meal. What would you be thinking? In all likelihood, a scam!
There was a story recorded for us in 1 Kings 17. Elijah proclaimed the judgment of God on Israel that it will not rain till he utters the word. Elijah then disappeared into Kerith Brook and he survived by the food delivered by ravens. He was later told to go into the village of Zarephath (Refinery). There he met a widow and asked her for water and bread. The widow was at the worst of the situation. She was getting ready for her last meal with her son because there were no harvest and people were starving to death. Would she share her last meal? In all oddity she did. The Bible tells us God had been working in the background. He always makes sure that His people doing His work never lack.
The story turned out that the widow benefited more than the prophet Elijah. In exchange for a meal, her supply did not run out and she even got her child raised from the dead. Her giving up of something dear was rewarded with something better. God takes care of those who do His will, many times, supernaturally. God never short change. The widow affirmed her faith after the whole incident. (1 Kings 17:24).
May we trust in the creator of the universe. He has been very kind and generous to His creation and He will never short change His people.
