Salt and Restrainer

Christians are very familiar with the term salt. Recently this term revisited my thought and I decide to sit down and write something about it. Just in case I forget what I have learned. Salt (sodium chloride) is a small particle and I have never seen anyone use a grain of salt for seasoning. You need a fair bit for salt to work. Yes even in ulcers. Ouch! When Jesus called his followers salt he must have meant a group of them. Jesus mentioned also that we are to have salt in ourselves and be at peace with others (Mark 9:50). The property of salt is a very stable form and typically, salt cannot lose its saltiness. Jesus, however, mentioned that if the salt loses its saltiness it becomes useless (Luke 14:34).  According to our Lord Jesus, salt is to be used for 2 purposes. For the soil or for the manure pile. Salt is added to soil to remove weeds. Salt was also added into dung to eliminate smell and prevent the spreading of diseases. Those days there was no flushing system. Looking at these 2 usages of salt, believers of the Lord Jesus (Christians) should always be active agents in preventing the "bad" from spreading our society. These bad includes godlessness (which I believe is the center of all bad things), oppression of the weak or helpless, and false teachings just to name a few. Believers must impact society with good that comes from God.
May we ask ourselves what our relationship with God means to those besides us. May our saltiness be felt among the community we live in. May our thoughts, speech and action prevents the spread of godlessness everywhere we go. Our Lord Jesus promised the aid of the Holy Spirit to journey with you.
