By his stripes, we were healed - a verse commonly used by Christians for the assurance of physical healing and smooth sailing life on earth. The text in 1 Peter sheds a different light.
1 Peter 2:18-25
In context, Apostle Peter was stating the Christian should adopt an attitude similar to that of our Lord Jesus Christ when we encounter an unreasonable boss. This is contrary to many teachings about Christ suffered so that we can enjoy a problem-free life. The Lord's death and suffering are always quoted for the sin problem, not for the quality of life which most pagan gods worshippers in those days went for.
Not every believer has the same quality of life. Some go through much suffering while others much enjoyment. 11 Apostles were martyrs while Apostle John was not. It is inaccurate to state that every believer will have an enjoyable life when they come to know the Lord. I personally knew a few Godly Christian who suffered tremendously including the death of their wife or child to accident or sickness. Christian who suffered like this is willing to exchange a comfortable life of their lost ones.
While everyone hopes to be blessed with an enjoyable life on earth, we also must adopt the correct mindset of what Christian suffering is all about. If someone goes through a crisis in life. They might be as spiritual as any other Christian. I believe the ground will finally be even when Jesus comes again. This is the Christian hope. This Christian hope never focuses for a better life in the world which at times rob us from the earnest anticipation of the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Luke 21:34-36. The anticipation of Christ's second coming as part of the good news, isn't it?
May we never grow to love the world. May we fix our hearts for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is with Him that we will be most enjoyable.
