Blessed Lunar New Year! As a Chinese, the Lunar New Year marks the start of another year. The unpleasant things of the old to be cast away and the looking forward to a fruitful year ahead.
As a Christian, a new year sets me thinking about what a fruitful year should means. Paul in 1 Thessalonians 5:23 said a prayer from his heart - And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
This prayer helped me focus as a Christian - to let God sanctify our whole being spirit, soul, and body. I have shared with some believers about this and was surprised that not many knew about the triune being we are made up of.
I credit these learnings to Bible teacher Derek Prince and Watchman Nee.
Body - Will Conscience (can be subjected to the will - Eg. the discipline to exercise or to read) - Satisfy by Pleasure - Active in Praise with the Soul (Eg. David uses his lips and spoke to his soul to bless the Lord in Psalm 103).
Soul - Self Conscience (easily subjected to emotions) - Satisfy by Happiness - Active in Worship with the Spirit (Eg. Jesus told the woman at the well that people will worship God in spirit and in truth in John 4).
Spirit - God Conscience (subjected to decisions) - Received by Faith and Satisfy by Joy (regardless of circumstances) - Active in Prayer with the Body (Eg. Paul ask his reader to pray in the Spirit in Ephesians 6:18).
I pray this new year marks a journey for everyone in Christ Jesus to be wholly dedicated to Him for His Glory and His Work. That will be a blessed journey indeed. May the Lord sanctify your whole being and preserve you blameless till the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
