Have you ever been asked this question, "How does one know if he or she is serving God using his or her own strength or in the power of God?"
Maybe the better question should be should there a clear differentiation between what is done by God or what is done by a man? The answer is yes and no.
The scripture recorded that God brought about great works of miracles through the hands of many people. Moses was one who did more miracles than many Old Testament prophets. Jeremiah however, did not miracles except prophesying. Joshua fought more battles than working miracles. Nehemiah did building projects without many supernatural deeds.
Some of Jesus's disciples did many miracles including healing and survival of snake bite. Others were stoned and martyred. The same disciples that walked out of prison gates miraculously were unable to enter the closed door of the house they went to. You can see that miracles (as in supernatural) do not happen all day all the time.
When you serve God, there will be times you feel that God's presence seemed to be absent. Those moments you feel alone, like Elijah on the run (1 King 19), like David who acted insane (1 Samuel 21:13), like those three men of God who answered the king even if God does not deliver them from the flames they will still not bow to any idols (Daniel 3:18).
Like a father who wants to see their child take certain responsibilities, God let his people work some things through so that they may grow and be mature. This is a kind of love. Know this, that the promise of God is that He never leaves us as He is everywhere.
“Ye are blessed of the Lord which made heaven and earth. The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord's: but the earth hath he given to the children of men.”
Psalms 115:15-16 KJV
May we continue to walk right even when we do not feel like it. May we give up wrong even when we do not feel the pressure from anyone. May we know the distance between our Father and us is a gap of love for our growth.
