There are many issues in our lives that call for a stand. Be it in the political arena, religious choices, principles of conduct, or environmental conservation practices. We are all called to make a stand.
Due to the diversities of opinion, we tend to stay neutral on certain issues as making a stand often place us in an awkward position. To defend our stand or to give an opinion about why we do not agree with the opposing view. Many of us turn out to prefer the neutral ground. After all, why stay on a ground that has the potential of conflict?
Our Lord in Matthew 10:34-40 declared that He did not come to bring peace but a sword. The Prince of Peace bringing a sword? This is a passage Bible critics use to refute Christianity. Yet the truth remains, to follow the Lord Jesus is a choice to become enemy of the world.
John 15:9 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
The difference in the distinction between Christ's kind of sword is that we are to fight the hostility of sin that enslaved the world. Our Lord led a sinless life and was crucified. He loved, healed, and ultimately died so that the world may be saved. We cannot continue to stay neutral between Christ and the world. The Gospel is the good news for the fallen world and it is not a neutral message.
May we be either hot or cold and not be lukewarm. The Lord's call is clear. Don't stay neutral.
