It is Christmas day.
I don't know about you, but I felt restless since I am awake.
This is the 31st Christmas since I came to know the Lord, and for every Christmas, I just desire to encounter Him.
As a believer, reading the scripture is a good way to start the day. And I landed in 2 Kings 5 of the Bible, a familiar record of Naaman.
Naaman's story is a fascinating one, but this time I was drawn to 2 other characters in this ancient record. A little maid and the King of Israel.
Naaman was a great general but he had an incurable disease: leprosy. A powerful man that cannot help himself.
Then there was a maid. The one in captivity who was serving Naaman's wife. A foreign maid without fame but full of faith.
She felt pity for her master because she believed that Elisha the prophet, who was then in Israel, could surely cure her master's disease. She can't help talking about it and the news came to Naaman. To Naaman, this was good news and his heart was set to seek the cure.
Then there was the king of Israel. The king of Syria wrote to him about providing the cure for Naaman. This caused him to be greatly troubled. He knew he could do nothing even though he was the king. He was as helpless as Naaman.
He had forgotten that there was prophet Elisha, or maybe he did know about Elisha but he did not believe that Elisha could change anything. A local king with no belief. When there is no belief, there is no hope.
Today is Christmas. There is a name that most people heard. That name is Jesus (Emmanuel which means God with us).
Do you believe in this name? A name that the scriptures called "Wonderful, counselor, mighty God"?
I do.
May we have the faith like the little maid and may this Christmas brings His name close to your hearts. Only then will Christmas has it's true meaning in your life.
