We are not used to receiving good things without working for them. The world constantly tells us to earn it. We are so conditioned to the performance and reward system such that unknowingly, we keep trying to earn our salvation as a believer of Christ. Sometimes, we even impose that on others. This kind of living is stressful both for yourself and those around you. Jesus came to set us free.
In the letter to the church of Ephesus, Apostle Paul dedicated half of his writing telling the reader who they are in Christ. It is important to be reminded constantly that our position as a child of God is by faith in Christ Jesus. Knowing your position and who you are in Christ comes before any instruction to do and perform (Ephesians 1-3). The second half of his letter is the practical part of living out who you are (Ephesians 4-6). If you are royalty, live as one or at least, learn to live as one. Apostle Paul was very intentional in organizing his writing this way. It serves as a reminder that we cannot earn our position with our performance. Our performance results from our position.
May we always remember that the work of our Lord Jesus bought us into the privileged position. This position is not based on performance but repentance (turn from sin and turn to Christ) and faith. Now, our performance comes out of a heart with gratitude that expects no return.
