The Greatest Miracle

Mogen (not his real name) is a taxi driver and he was not contented with the spiritual encounter as a follower of Jesus Christ. He was recommended by a friend and during our fellowship, we spoke about the importance of repentance and the significance of water baptism. Mogen always wanted to see God doing a miracle through him. He thought he was missing something in the spiritual journey with the Holy Spirit. Little did we know that the Lord is going to do the greatest miracle in Mogen’s life.

We arranged for a meeting we called a repentance talk. It is a time we ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to the individual the sin a person committed that is not pleasing to the Lord and we will confess the sins and ask for forgiveness. Usually, we do this before a person is water baptised as water baptism signifies the burial of the old self and to raise with Christ as a new creation. (Romans 6).

Mogen was very prepared to follow the Lord wholeheartedly. He prepared a list before our meeting and confessed one sin after another in the presence of 2 witnesses. Each time, we thank the Lord for His grace to forgive and for the Holy Spirit to bring peace and reconciliation to a relationship if a third party was involved. The Lord impressed upon me to share with Mogen that the greatest miracle we can witness is when someone came to acknowledge that Christ is the Messiah and to repent of sins before Him. Jesus shared this in Luke 10 that it was not healing or casting out demons that the disciples should rejoice, but they are to rejoice when they knew their names were written in the book of life. It was also recorded that in Luke 15:10 that the Angels rejoice when a sinner repents. Salvation was the greatest miracle.

We could see tears of joy running continuously from Mogen’s eyes when he heard that. All his life he was asking the Lord to empower him to do miracles. When there were no miracles, he became discontented and disappointed. This time, God did not do a miracle through him but did the greatest miracle in him! It was an event unforgettable for him and us.

May we seek to share the Gospel as it has the power to save. May we witness the greatest miracles of one coming to acknowledge God, recognises one’s sinfulness and repent of it. Putting faith in Jesus Christ the Messiah for His work on the cross and live an obedient life of walking with Christ, baptism and partaking the communion in a community of God’s people. That is indeed the Greatest Miracle.
