Herod

Herod was a powerful man with a deadly weakness. In Mark 6, it was recorded that he enjoyed listening to John the Baptist even though John spoke against him. However, enjoying John's message did not change him. Herod indulged in pleasures and sin. His heart could not catch up with what he learned. A tragic life in the eyes of God. Herod had to behead John the Baptist because of his promise to an entertainer. Interestingly a man that cannot walk in the truth can keep a promise that condones wrongdoing. Perhaps it was Herod's pride all this while. Doing only what he saw fit and disregard instructions even by God's prophet. He was his only concern.
May we remember that pride hid within us all the time. We must rid it by cultivating humility. Learn to give up control so that the body can subject itself to the word of God.
