Are you a Fisher of Men?

When I was in secondary school I remembered attending a talk by an avid angler. It was held in a library and was attended by not more than 25 people. Two other friends were with me but we had never fish in the open sea or have any trophy catch of our lives. We mainly fish at the jetty or along the seaside. We could not afford to fish on a boat back then. Those stories that the angler told fascinated us. He shared about watching Manta Ray in the wild and also hooked fish so huge that almost emptied the line of the fishing reel. Those stories remained an obscure picture in our minds. Some years later I found myself in the open sea catching larger fishes. There was once we came face to face with a young whale shark that circled our boat for more than 10 minutes. It was so close to us we are so tempted to touch it and most of us welcomed it with our cameras. That was one of the most awesome experience out at sea. I tell you these stories because they mirrored my journey as a disciple of Jesus. Christians,  for more than two thousand years, have been commissioned by the Lord Jesus in Matthew 28:18-20. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.   Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:   Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen We heard stories about how others led people to Christ, helped someone repent of their sins, cast out a demon, baptize someone in the water, and laying hands and pray for someone to receive the Holy Spirit. If that becomes obscure stories to us, we need to start to take our first step of obedience. Our Lord Jesus is sending you to do His work (John 20:21). Start something simple today, pray for someone, share the gospel, ask if someone has a sin to repent, ask if a believer wants to be baptized in water. You will begin to see how the life of a disciple is as real as the Bible recorded.
May we receive the invitation of our Lord Jesus to follow Him and be Fishers of men.
