Sex

My quiet time using the Robert Roberts Bible in a year program led me into the Song of Solomon. I have not actually studied this book. The first chapter raises many questions about why this book made it into the Bible. The setting is sensual, physical, and even sexual. Now I get your attention. I remembered a friend who spoke on handling addiction commended that every single male had somehow thread upon pornography. Whether the experience became a vice to the individual, they vary. Shortly after, I received a DVD from RBC titles: Trapped - Finding Freedom From Pornography. It dawned upon me that sexual sin or habits can be a strong vice against any Christian of any age like drugs, music, and entertainment. How then can a Christian break free from this? Here is some personal advice I have practiced to prevent entering into vices that are hard to break. These had helped me greatly not to harbor habits that create tension in our walk with God. 1. A proper perspective of God's creation. We are sensual beings. God made us this way for procreation. Urges and needs arise like hunger and thirst. I hope you are still with me. 2. We are made in the image of God. The opposite sex is then not an object but God's creation in His OWN image. To objectify the opposite sex then it is a great disrespect to the creator God. We all fell in this one way or another. 3. It is the devil who corrupts sex which God has made. Sex is God's creation and can be enjoyed in the right terms and conditions namely marriage. Bad sexual habits can also be cultivated because of sexual advertisements all over our faces daily. 4. The solution to unhealthy sexual habits is a right relationship with God. A healthy marriage love relationship will nurture a faithful partner. We are the bride of Christ and hence have a responsibility to stay in purity instead of giving to lust. 5. Find help if you are in a sexual vice. The less you seek to help the less likely you can be freed from it. This is a simple yet hard truth. Ask for help both from God and men. Counselors are present for a reason. 5. Learn to avoid it. Sexual sins are usually personal, secret, and dark. Spend less time alone and useless gadgets. Joseph ran away and Samson ran into. May we all stand together to combat this vice as a body of Christ as His honoring bride.
