There are people each day longing to deepen their relationship with God. The Bible regarded loving God as the first and foremost important commandment. The question is," How does one love God?" Loving God is always connected to loving people. The writer in 1 John 4 declared: " If a man says, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?" To mutually exclude people from the equation of loving God is living a lie. The writer questioned the hearers how can it even be possible to do so. People who we can see and show love must first be given care and love before one can even think about loving God. It is likened to be an animal lover and disregard their own parents. Such love goes nowhere.

May we learn that our faith must have an impact on the people before we desire to love God deeper. The second commandment does come first before the first. For the first is not possible to attain without the second.
