Belial means wicked. The Bible in many instances mentioned Satan or the Devil of being wicked. Hence the term son of Belial was not a good term to be used on a person. In the record of 1 Samuel 25, Nabal was called the son of Belial. What constituted him to be called such a name? Let's examine the text. He didn't know who David was. Interestingly he wasn't interested in the things of importance. David was a very popular man at that time. Everyone believed that God's hand was with David. Yet Nabal was apathetic about it. Nabal was also someone that does not listen. No man could speak to him. He was so full of himself that he cares less about anybody. Nabal was also a man living like a king and got himself drunk.

May we learn from the story of Nabal. When Jesus told the story of one disregard for others and live loosely, he warned that life could be taken away from him suddenly. That happened to Nabal.
