When Lord Jesus walked on the earth He was different from the religious leaders of His time. The Pharisees and Sadducees were largely rich and powerful people and many had connections with the Roman governors at that time. Most of them were respected by society and seated in places of importance during events.
Christ Jesus, on the other hand, walked with the least of His time. Lepers, prostitutes, tax collectors, and the poor. Christ Jesus denied high places and even left town when the people tried to make Him king by force. It was never for a lucrative lifestyle that Jesus seek and at one instance He even said that He had no place to lay His head. The Messiah of God had not a place to sleep? That is mind-boggling.
Christianity today has elevated to a lifestyle. We have beautiful church buildings with concert class sound and lighting systems. People are well dressed and many gathered in fellowship at more than average coffee places.
These are not bad things but may we be mindful that following Christ is not an elevating lifestyle but obedience to the call to serve and love others.
