Have you ever experienced a defeat after a significant victory? If you did you should be able to relate to some Bible Stories recorded for us. Elijah was one of the greatest prophets ever lived, his story is probably better than most Hollywood movie script. At the peak of his ministry, he challenged 850 prophets of other gods and won. He went into a "depression" right after that when the queen wanted his life (1 Kings 19).
This part of history can cause some to believe that defeat is only a step away from victory. That is not true.
Jesus was led into temptation right after his baptism. His baptism was something spectacular and it did not happen to anyone else. God the Father spoke and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him like a dove. Right after the Dove, he was led to be tempted by the devil.
Jesus was in many ways different from Elijah. Elijah's sent judgment but Jesus sent forgiveness, Elijah allowed Elisha to "say goodbye" to his family but Jesus set a higher standard for discipleship in Luke 9:57-62. The Dove and Devil experience set Jesus apart and Jesus won even when He was crucified at the cross. What assurance we can have when we abide in Jesus. We can walk through all life's journeys with Him. Only in Jesus can we master the art of victory over our battles in life or what is known as becoming overcomers.
May we learn to keep in steps with Christ. Not to proceed too fast or to lack behind. Only then can we be consistent in all situation.
