When God Forgets

It is easier to forgive than to forget. When a wrong is done to us, our emotional hurt causes us to defend against the same hurt. It causes us to remember how much we are affected and hurt. At times we develop a way to handle such hurt and we become better in handling such circumstances but at times the hurt haunts us, again and again, causing us to lose hope and trust. When we sin against God, the Bible tells us that we need to face certain consequences. Jesus used the illustration sowing and reaping. There are certain wrongs however, that consequences do not come immediately. We are then left with a fear that God will one day bring us to judgment, even if we do not do them again. Law works this way, it doesn't matter how many times we obeyed the law but what we deserve when we broke a law. The writer of Hebrew (chapter 8) was full of hope when they remembered a prophecy from the prophet Jeremiah (Chapter 31). God will one day forgive His people and remember their sins no more. God chooses to forgive and forget the sins of His people! This was spoken in the context not to encourage loose living, but to encourage God's people to persevere in Godly living. Let us continue to live a life in fear of God. The very creator who knows we are mere humans and hence need His grace to make it in this race. This grace did not come cheap as God make atonement for our sins with the blood of Christ Jesus His Son. What a price He paid!
May we continue life remembering that when God forget our sins, then we have hope. If we don't, all is left is a guilty fear that will cripple our growth in the Lord. When God forgets, we should be filled with wonder.
