One of the most famous stories of the Bible is Samson and Delilah. Samson was a man many aspire to be. He was passionate, strong and courageous. On the other hand, Samson represented the worst of character. He disregarded the law of God and lived by the desires of his heart. In the end, he was killed by it.
I believe the worst moments of Samson’s life when he lost his strength, was bound and had his eyes gouged. Being reduced to a normal man from the height of extraordinary strength must have caused Samson to have great regrets and despair. From one who could lift a gate while hiking to one who is blind, a weak must be excruciating. Worst still is the betrayal by a woman he loved. Anger, regret, hate you name it should be there with Samson.
Spiritual giants have their moments too. One can be spiritually charged and then experience a defeat a short moment after. Like Samson, our desires battle us every single day and at times, every single moment. Then came the twist of the story.
Howbeit the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaven. Judges 16:22.
For those who are unfamiliar with the story of Samson. Samson was a chosen person to oversee Israel. He was not supposed to drink strong drink and not allowed to shave his head. He let the secret to Delilah who betrayed him to the Philistine by shaving his head. When the hair began to grow, he is regaining his strength.
Samson then began to embrace his mission. For the first time recorded for us, he prayed. He was willing to give his life to fulfil his mission of delivering the Israelites. As the Philistines were celebrating their victory, they showcased Samson and tied him to the pillars. Samson pulled down the columns and buried the Philistines with himself.
When we are weary spiritually because of defeat, take heart. If we were betrayed, take courage. When we loss of directions, take courage. When we lose our strength, take courage. Because as sure as the hair grows, our spiritual strength is returning. The Lord is faithful. He has not left Samson in his desperate time and neither will He leave you in your desperate moments.
May we be reminded of the Lord’s faithfulness in our weakest moments. Strength is coming back as surely as the hair grows. Pray and return to your mission today.
